Abstract

Thehydroelectric power plant is the one who has a high risk which can cause a work
accident. It is not only getting a positive impact but at the same time also get a negative
impact on several factors one of them is work accidents and occupational illness. The
purpose of this study to find out the application of usage personal protective equipment in the
workplace. This study was including in descriptive study with cross-sectional with method of
distribution questioner and checklist of complete use personal protective equipment in the
workplace, with 66 respondents. The results showed that the workers age mostly 20 years old
to 24 years old, 92,4% male, were last educated bachelor degree. There are three work place
in hydroelectric power plant is Weir with 37,9% workers, Penstock with 30,3% workers, and
Power house with 31,8%. Every workplace there are four parts kind of work, electrical
worker, rebar worker and formwork, Fitter and Housekeeper. In Weir there are 25 workers,
17 workers 68% who used complete personal protective equipment. In Penstock there are 20
workers, 15 workers 75% who used complete. In Power house there are 21 workers, 16
workers 76% who used complete of personal protective equipment. The result of questioner is
there are 5 workers 7,6 % complaint about cough because of dust in the environment of
workplace. For resolve the complaints 89,4 % of workers visit clinic from the company.
Workers who do not have history of illness 90,0%. Suggestion for improving the company is
remind the workers to use complete personal protective equipment to protect them accident
of work.
